Handbuilt Lidded Vessel
MAY 13- 16, 2025
Join Candice Methe as she teaches students to make lidded vessels with three different handbuilding techniques. Students will learn coiling, Kurinuki, a reductive technique to hollow out a form, and hard/soft slab construction. Candice will provide students with templates so they can create their own one of a kind vessel and take their greenware home with them.

Looking to History to Shape Contemporary Forms in Clay
TRURO, MASSACHUSSETTS June 30- July 3, 2025
In this fun four day workshop, students will look to ceramics history to build dynamic forms in clay using various handbuilding techniques that include coil and pinch and kurinuki. We will make terra sigillata and discuss various clays, applications, and troubleshooting. Students will also have the opportunity to "pitfire" their pieces learning a fun, exciting and accessible way to finish work.
PENLAND SCHOOL OF CRAFT
Historically Inspired Contemporary Forms in Clay
PENLAND, NORTH CAROLINA, AUG 10-15, 2025
This workshop will look at historical ceramics from all over the world to inspire ideas for our contemporary practice in clay. Through play, experimentation, and imagination, students will explore the aesthetics of form and function in the handbuilt vessel. We will work with templates, soft and hard slab, coil, and pinching methods. Terra sigillata–a fine slip that has been used throughout the centuries–will also be explored as we discuss making “sig,” various applications, adding colorants, and troubleshooting. The workshop will culminate with a pit firing. Students will learn the various materials for firing and multiple ways to use pit firing in their practice

SCULPTING ANIMALS
SPREAD YOUR SCULPTING WINGS IN THIS 4- DAY HANDS-ON INTENSIVE WORKSHOP WITH CANDICE METHE AND CHRISTINE KOSIBA FOCUSING ON THE CREATIVE APPROACH THAT CAPTURES THE BEAUTY OF BIRDS. CANDICE WILL LEAD PARTICIPANTS IN BUILDING BIRD INSPIRED VESSELS UTILIZING THE COIL AND PINCH METHOD. CHRISTINE WILL WALK PARTICIPANTS THROUGH SCULPTING A WALL MOUNTED BIRD, SEATED BIRD AND AVIAN THEMED TILES. SURFACE TREATMENT WILL BE DISCUSSED AND CANDICE WILL COVER TERRA SIGILLATA AND ITS VARIOUS APPLICATIONS. CHRISTINE WILL DISCUSS SURFACE TREATMENTS AND INCORPORATING MIXED MEDIA INTO HER SCULPTURES.
